Bougainvilleas, plumbagos, orange and lemon trees invade the senses in the Le Mouré district!
Wander around the steep streets with their colourful façades and houses.
Your visit alternates between artists’ galleries, little shops and reproductions of Fauvism artworks, until you reach the highest point of Le Mouré, the Rue des Carranques!

One district, one story!

Colour is all around here, from the gutters to the façades, doors and more. The range of colours and lush vegetation is impossible to resist!

But is it simply a question of appearance? In fact, the leftover paint used on Catalan boats during the fishing era, was used to paint the façades of houses.

Fishermen’s houses, visible from the high narrow houses, the officers’ quarters on the Rue des Caranques, reproductions of Fauvism artwork – Le Mouré has a history!

A sculpture of a couple in love on a low wall, a gutter ending in a figure, windows depicting an anchor and fish, a head hanging on the wall, bottles of Banyuls wine on a roof – there are so many unusual little details to be found that tell the story of Collioure’s past. Avenue de l’Egalité, Rue de la fraternité, Rue du Mirador, Rue Bellevue and Rue des Caranques are just some of the streets that make up this open-air museum!

The Fauvism Trail

"In France there is no sky as blue as the one in Collioure… I just have to close the shutters of my room and I have all the colors of the Mediterranean before me.”

“Working in front of an exhilarating landscape, all I could think about was making my colours sing, regardless of all the rules and prohibitions.” Quote by Henri Matisse about Collioure.
