The post-war period was a happy and prosperous one for Collioure, attracting artists eager to reconnect with the pleasure of creation and a certain carefree spirit.

For just over 20 years, Collioure, like other villages along the Mediterranean coast, built its legend. Artists and stars mingled in an atmosphere where work did not exclude celebration.

The last lights of the city of painters shone brightly before the coast was transformed into a leisure area under the pressure of heliotropism and tourism development. In 1968 (or 1971), in a huge bonfire, the boats of Collioure were burnt to free up the beaches and make way for the burgeoning tourism industry. The fishing port became a seaside resort, authenticity became folklore and artists deserted the town. One world chases another.
