THE FAUVIST TRAIL
Itinerary details
Description
Discover the Fauvist Trail and relive the summer of 1905, when Matisse and Derain painted the majority of their canvases. The Fauvist Trail brings together a collection of 17 reproductions of these 2 painters spread throughout the town.
In less than three months, Henri Matisse painted over 15 canvases, 40 watercolours and around a hundred drawings. André Derain produced 30 canvases, 20 drawings and around fifty sketches. Both artists found the inspiration they needed to create this innovative pictorial movement in Collioure.
That's why the Fauvist Trail was created in Collioure, to help as many people as possible discover what these painters experienced that summer, and why Collioure was such an exceptional artistic trigger for these painters, giving birth to the Fauvist movement.
