Collioure hosts a cooperative winery, independent winegrowers and wine merchants who invite you to share their passion.
On the Vermeille coast, the wines are full-bodied and tanned, just like the men who carved out the arid and steep terraces.
On these terraced vineyards, the vines grow grapes that are soaked in Catalan sunshine and Mediterranean sea spray. A tasting of AOC Collioure and Banyuls wines is a must if you want to discover the know-how of the Vermeille coast vineyards!
You will discover all the secrets of Collioure wine :
Wine, an ancestral heritage
This 1,800 ha vineyard stretches along the Vermeille coast, between Collioure and Cerbère. This terraced mountain vineyard is the “Jardin des Albères” and was planted several centuries B.C.
It is on this arid land, swept by the tramontane wind, that these wines of character flourish.
French Protected Designation of Origin (AOC)
Collioure and Banyuls wines are French Protected Designation of Origin wines from the Vermeille coast vineyards, which stretch over Collioure, Port-Vendres, Banyuls-sur-Mer and Cerbère (a total of 330 hectares!)
A terraced vineyard, completely operated by hand, with steep plots and vines clinging to the shale, producing a wine with character, swept by the salty sea spray and ripened by the Catalan sun.
- AOC COLLIOURE: Collioure produces a powerful, velvety red wine and an elegant, generous rosé. Since 2002, white wines have been added to the range.
The vineyards on the shale soils enjoy a climate of sunshine, tramontane winds and sea breezes.
- AOC BANYULS NATURAL SWEET WINE: Made from different grape varieties (Grenache noir, gris, blanc and Carignan), Banyuls has a surprisingly rich aroma, a natural sweetness and a very pleasant smoothness. After being blended with alcohol, Banyuls is aged in oak barrels
Where can we take part in a wine tasting?
The Cave Coopérative des Dominicains
Come and see for yourself one of the most beautiful wine cellars on the Vermeille coast
Located in the former church of the Dominican convent, this 13th-century historic monument boasts a wine cellar where wines of character are made and shared. A cooperative that has been safeguarding traditional, ancestral know-how since 1926. The vines are worked exclusively by hand in an idyllic setting worthy of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.
The vines are planted in terraced vineyards that plunge directly into the Mediterranean. Add to that a touch of sunshine, the tramontane breeze and salty sea spray and you have a beverage of character, highly aromatic and unique. To help you understand this historic site and exceptional terroir, guided tours are available all year round (booking required).
